Fraxel® Laser Resurfacing
what is fraxel laser resurfacing
Our Fraxel® Restore Laser treatment offers a safe, non-ablative procedure that allows you to experience more fresh, healthy and radiant skin.
Fraxel® treatment can:
Improve texture, tone and minimize pore size
Improve superficial, unwanted brown spots from the sun
Smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scars
Rejuvenate your face, neck, chest, and hands
Has moderate downtime
how it works
Fraxel® Laser treatment uses a deep 1550 nm wavelength to create thousands of microscopic thermal zones within the underlying skin layer (the dermis) while leaving the skin’s surface layer (the epidermis) intact. The tissue surrounding the columns of vaporized tissue is left healthy and unaffected but stimulated to repair resulting in collagen production. This innovative approach allows us to treat a very small fraction of skin at a time, so the skin heals much faster than if the entire area were treated at once.
On the skin's surface, the laser energy eliminates old, sun-damaged, and pigmented cells, penetrating deep into the dermis. This stimulates increased collagen growth. The body's natural healing process creates new healthy tissue to replace the microscopic zones eradicated by the laser.
Since approximately 20-25% of the skin's surface area is treated at one time during each treatment, it is recommended to receive 3-6 treatments every 4-8 weeks to achieve desired and optimal results.
why this treatment?
Our Fraxel® Laser treatments result in immediate improvement in overall rejuvenation of the face, neck, chest, and hands in comparison to other resurfacing procedures that require longer healing and downtime.
what to expect
A topical numbing cream and optional local anesthetic will be provided prior to the treatment 30-60 minutes before your Fraxel laser procedure. Customized settings will be chosen based on patients concerns and allotted cosmetic downtime. Parallel cooling is provided with our Zimmer air cooling system to alleviate thermal discomfort for the duration of your treatment.
The sensation experienced is that of a moderate, prickly sunburn and after the treatment the skin will be red and swollen. This lasts for approximately 24-72 hours. Ice packs and aloe vera gel can be applied as well as anti-inflammatories and anti-histamines may be taken.
Once redness and swelling have dissipated the skin takes on what we call a “bronzing” phase that results in a sandpaper appearance and texture. This damaged skin will exfoliate off in patches over the next 3-14 days. Acne and cold sore flares can occur. Please take proper prophylactics if you are prone to cold sores before and after your appointment.
