what is newborn circumcision
Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the skin covering the end of the penis is removed. The procedure is performed by a Doctor in the first few days of life, up to 14 days old in the hospital or in a Doctor’s office.
Although there are personal or religious reasons, some possible medical benefits are as follows:
Lower chance of urinary tract infections
Lower risk of cancer of the penis
Lower risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases including HIV (the AIDS virus)
Prevention of foreskin infections
Prevention of Phimosis, a condition where it is impossible to retract the foreskin
Risks:
Bleeding, infection, cutting the foreskin too short or too long
Improper healing
Decrease in sensation in the tip of the penis later in life
